Wan Azizah now in UMMC, still in stable condition

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was transferred to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) yesterday and may be discharged by Friday, TheSun reported.

The party has officially spoken for the first time on the matter of her recent ailment and hospitalisation, with its communications director Fahmi Fadzil saying that Wan Azizah was recuperating well.

“She is undergoing a routine medical check-up and is still under doctor’s observation,” he told the daily yesterday, adding that she had first been admitted to the Al Islam Hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Monday before being transferred to UMMC.

Though Fahmi did not disclose the nature of her ailment, he suggested the Permatang Pauh MP was just one or two days away from being discharged, pending the results of a medical check-up.

According to TheSun, Wan Azizah’s husband, Anwar Ibrahim was allowed leave Sungai Buloh prison to visit her at UMMC. Also among her visitors yesterday were Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

On Monday, Wan Azizah’s press secretary said the opposition leader will continue to be absent from the proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat and the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting until her condition improves. Wan Azizah is the state assemblywoman for Kajang.
