In a statement carried by The Star, Sihabutheen Kirudu Mohamed said hygiene was Pelita Samudra Pertama’s first priority.
“There was a possibility of alcohol contamination and hygiene issues. We’ve had many incidents like children vomiting without imposing clean-up charges.
“But having been in the food industry for almost two decades, we cannot allow our reputation to be tarnished by negligence. Hygiene is our top priority,” he said in the statement yesterday.
The receipt, issued at 5.06am on Apr 2, listed the RM15 clean-up charge among other ordinary items such as nasi goreng kampung, maggi goreng and limau ais.
A picture of the receipt quickly made the rounds on social media, with some internet users criticising the restaurant for imposing the charge.
According to The Star, one of the restaurant’s managers later lodged a police report, saying that the post was malicious.
He said that a group of six drunk people had gone to the restaurant at about 4am, and that two of them had thrown up on the table while eating, the daily reported.
However, the boyfriend of the person who had uploaded the picture said on Facebook that the post had been made as a joke, adding that the group had paid the RM15 charge without any complaint.
