5 injured after severe turbulence on AirAsia X flight

AirAsia X confirms a video making rounds on social media of a turbulent flight en route to KL yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X today confirmed that one of its flights encountered severe turbulence, injuring some five passengers yesterday.

In a statement dismissing claims that nearly 20 of its passengers were injured, the long-haul budget airline also said that the injured were treated by paramedics at the airport upon landing.

“All other passengers were attended to by ground staff and provided with necessary assistance,” the airline told FMT.

Fight D7 377, with 11 crew members and 291 passengers on board encountered severe turbulence while en route to Kuala Lumpur from Taipei.

The A330-300 aircraft landed safely at klia2 at 12.30pm.

A 1.40-second video recently made rounds on WhatsApp, showing AirAsia crew members trying to offer assistance and pacify some of the panic-stricken passengers.

One passenger could be seen lying on the floor while another informed the crew that she felt like vomiting.

As the turbulence worsened, one crew member also made repeated calls to passengers and others to remain seated and stay calm as everything “was going to be alright”.
