Money changer loses RM2 million to robbers with toy guns

Police find two toy pistols believed to have been used in the robbery dumped outside shop.

IPOH: Three men armed with toy pistols escaped with RM2 million worth of foreign currency and Malaysian ringgit from a money changer shop in Jalan Mustafa Al Bakri here, yesterday.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the three men wearing fully covered crash helmets entered the money changer shop at about 6.45pm as it was about to close for business.

“The robbers grabbed a shotgun from a security guard and ordered an employee to open a safe and scooped the money. They fled in a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive vehicle,” he said in a statement today.

Police found two toy pistols believed to have been used in the robbery dumped outside the money changer shop.

Sum said they are studying footage from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to trace the robbers.
