
The police personnel were each released on bail of RM50,000 in one surety at remand proceedings in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
Today, at the same court, Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed three other suspects to be released on bail of RM10,000 each in one surety.
All the individuals, who were between 31 and 54 years old, were being investigated under Section 16 (a)(B) and 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.
To date, 13 individuals, including nine police officers and personnel in Melaka, had been detained to assist investigations into the case.
However, three other suspects, namely two police officers with the rank of Deputy Superintendent (DSP) and Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and a van driver who acted as the middleman in collecting the protection money, were still being remanded.
The police officer with the rank of DSP from Melaka Tengah was remanded for seven days until May 29, the van driver until May 30 and the police officer with the rank of ASP was detained for seven days up to May 31 to assist in the investigation.
