SEPANG:
One of the three Malaysian students questioned by Greater Manchester police a week after a suicide bombing at a concert by American pop star Ariana Grande which killed 22 people at the Manchester Arena on May 22, has returned home since it is the University’s semester break.

Muhammad Helmy, 22, from Negeri Sembilan, who is pursuing a degree at the University of Manchester, arrived on Malaysia Airlines flight MH001 from London and was received by his parents and Umno Overseas’ Students Bureau chairman Reezal Merican Naina Merican who is also the deputy foreign minister at the KLIA, here yesterday.

The press were told not to take pictures of the student or seek his comments since his parents and family members wanted the press to respect their privacy.

On May 29, Helmy and two other Malaysian students were taken in for questioning by the Greater Manchester police at about 5.40pm (UK time) and released at about 9pm.

Reezal said all three students who were questioned by the country’s National Crime Agency were released without any conditions.

“The student was not sent home but is just back on holiday and will return to the UK to continue his studies,” he said.

The three Malaysian students were among 16 students detained for investigations into the Manchester terror attack.

Two other students who were with Helmy are expected to return soon.
