PETALING JAYA:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said says over three million Malaysians who are eligible to vote have not yet registered with the Election Commission (EC).

In a Parliamentary reply today, she said 3,772,149 individuals had not yet registered as of March this year.

“In addition to that, the EC has received 1,454 objections (to voter registrations) from January to March 2017,” she said.

She was replying on behalf of Prime Minister Najib Razak to Kasthuri Patto (DAP-Batu Kawan), who had asked for the number of unregistered voters according to race as well as whether individuals holding temporary identification cards would be allowed to vote.

Azalina said those in possession of such cards would not be allowed to vote as they did not qualify as citizens.
