Located in Taman Danau Desa, near Jalan Klang Lama, the school was opened in 2003, but was ordered closed in 2004 after one of the walls collapsed.
Over the years, the abandoned school’s compound had become a magnet for delinquency such as underage drinking, underage sexual activity, drug abuse and vandalism.
There were also instances of open burning.
Residents in the area are relieved to learn that property developer Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd is in the midst of acquiring the land from the Education Ministry and plans to build an international school at the site.
“We found that within a 10km radius, there was no international school in the vicinity,” Aset Kayamas executive director Michael Chai told the StarMetro.
When asked about the current status of the project, Chai said the company was still in talks with the ministry and land office on the proposal to build a new school at the site.
Chai said the company intended to begin work on the land in the second quarter of 2018, and that the proposed school would be targeted at the middle-income group and cater to both primary and secondary school students.
Residents lauded the demolition of the school and the proposed building of an international school, as they believe it would serve as a remedy for social problems in the area and benefit the community as a whole.
