PETALING JAYA:
The teacher who accused M Vasanthapiriya of stealing her mobile phone did so after viewing CCTV footage which showed the girl taking the device, say police sources.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, the sources said the teacher had then spoken to Vasanthapiriya about the matter, but that the girl had denied the theft.

However, they did not provide further details as the investigation is ongoing.

Vasanthapiriya attempted to take her own life on Jan 24 after being accused of stealing her teacher’s iPhone.

She was saved by her father who then sent her to hospital. However, she never regained consciousness and died on Feb 1.

Her case garnered national attention after her uncle filed a police report stating that she was allegedly confined by her accuser at school before being driven home some five hours later.

Police have recorded statements from 24 people so far, including the 46-year-old teacher and her 48-year-old husband.

Six police reports have been lodged about the case, including two from the teacher.
