GEORGE TOWN: A top executive behind the Penang tunnel and roads project has resigned from the board of directors of fashion apparel company Vertice Berhad.

Vertice is a major shareholder of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZCSB), which won an open tender in 2013 to construct the undersea tunnel and three main roads.

According to a Bursa Malaysia filing, Zarul Ahmad Mohamad Zulkifli stepped down as non-independent non-executive chairman of Vertice to “pursue other business interests”.

Vertice has appointed former chief justice Arifin Zakaria, 67, as its non-executive chairman effective today.

Zarul remains senior executive director of CZCSB.

Vertice, in a separate filing in January, had said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was investigating its associate company CZCSB.
