PETALING JAYA:
Police have opened an investigation paper in relation to a video clip that was first posted on Facebook and has since gone viral, over the alleged rudeness of two police officers at a roadblock in Perak.

The Star today reported Kampar district police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon as saying that the matter would be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

He said police had taken note of the posting yesterday by a Facebook user named Long Ng on the alleged incident along Jalan Baru Malim Nawar-Bandar Baru Kampar and would look into it internally.

The user had claimed in the posting, which was in Chinese, that he was stopped at about 10am yesterday for allegedly not wearing his seatbelt.

“The policemen told me that one of their colleagues saw me without my seatbelt at a traffic light junction.

“I vehemently denied the accusation and called my boss to explain what was happening to me before one of the policemen rudely told me that he is issuing me a summon.

“I then told him to do so but then he refused,” the FB user said.

Ng said the public were advised not to share or make viral the post until the investigation was complete.

“From what I was told, the police on duty at the roadblock had let the man go after the incident.

“Prior to leaving, the driver also took a photograph of the policeman using his smartphone,” Ng was quoted as saying by the daily.

A person convicted under Section 233 of CMA 1998 faces a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of up to a year, or both.
