GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang government will lodge a police report over a fake tweet claiming Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will “abolish Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)” if Pakatan Harapan comes to power.

His information officer Zaidi Ahmad said the screenshot of the tweet was circulating on social media since yesterday.

The screenshot appears to be a tweet from Lim’s official Twitter account, @cmlimguaneng.

But it was nowhere to be found in the Twitterverse.

“The tweet is fake and Lim has never tweeted such a thing. We will lodge a police report today,” Zaidi told reporters at Komtar.

The tweet with a timestamp of 7.58pm read: “One of the #ManifestoPH we will launch is to save the peoples’ money by abolishing UITM all over the country. The allocations will be distributed evenly to all government universities under the Pakatan Harapan government.”

At the same press conference, Lim denied he sent out such a tweet, calling it “slander” and hoped the police would investigate the matter.
