Maybank appoints new CEO for international operations

Michael Foong takes over from Pollie Sim who retired from the banking group.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Maybank has appointed its group chief strategy officer Michael Foong Seong Yew as its new chief executive officer (CEO), international, beginning June 1, replacing Pollie Sim who retired from Maybank the same day.

Foong, who joined Maybank in 2011, will now serve as group chief strategy officer and CEO, international.

“As an expert in strategy development and business transformation, he has made contributions to international where he oversaw, with the group president and CEO, the transformation programmes for Maybank Hong Kong, Philippines and Cambodia from 2014,” said group president and CEO Abdul Farid Alias in a statement today.

Prior to joining Maybank, Foong was the senior managing director of Accenture’s management consulting practice in Malaysia.

Positive that the appointment would help achieve the group’s ambitious growth plans for its international operations, Farid said that Foong would be a pivotal advantage in leveraging the regional footprint and charting the path for further growths.
