Malaysia will rise as the Asian tiger again, says Mahathir
He is confident of many investors coming to Malaysia after meeting them during his trip to New York and London.
SUBANG: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed confidence that Malaysia will return as an “Asian tiger” economy once again.
Looking fresh despite his long flight from London, he said he was thankful for the visit which gave him the opportunity to meet investors and the US media.
“Looks like they are happy… looks like they are satisfied with the explanation and a lot of investors have promised they will come to Malaysia to invest,” he said to chants of “Hidup Tun” by federal ministers and hundreds of supporters who had gathered at the airport to welcome him and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali home.
Some of the ministers present to greet him were Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, his deputy Liew Chin Tong and others.
Mahathir was away on a working visit to New York, where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly, and London.
During his brief speech to his supporters at the airport, Mahathir said Pakatan Harapan’s priority is to create as many jobs as possible for Malaysians at all levels.
“The investors have agreed. They will have industries that will need trained officers, engineers and other workers so that they can produce high-value products.
“That is why I am urging all to get ready and don’t disappoint those who are coming to help Malaysians by investing in Malaysia.”
He said Malaysians would need to work hard and with better discipline to produce quality goods to show to the world that Malaysia has improved and has capable people.
He said the welcome given to him in the United States was good and he also had a chance to meet British Prime Minister Theresa May in New York.
“When I was in London, their government agreed to give a briefing on ways to combat corruption.
“Their welcome was really good. I didn’t expect it. Just like in KL, there were police escorts wherever I went,” he added.
