Malaysia a top destination for China property buyers, says expert

The chairman of a China-based website for buyers wishing to tap into overseas property markets says Malaysia is very attractive to foreign investors, including from China, because returns on properties are good.

Foreign real estate investment may drive up local property prices, says chairman of Juwai.com Georg Chmiel. (Bernama pic)
KUALA LUMPUR:
A property market expert said Malaysia is a top destination for real-estate investment from China.

Chairman of Juwai.com Georg Chmiel said Malaysia was in the top five locations for real estate investment coming in from China.

He was speaking during a panel discussion at the “China Conference” organised by the South China Morning Post.

He said one reason why Malaysia was attractive was that the investments provided good returns as the properties were relatively more affordable.

He added the education level in Malaysia was very high and, therefore, foreigners coming to Malaysia could send their children to international schools.

Chmiel said the medical services available here, especially in the retirement segment, were very attractive.

“There is also a strong inflow of capital coming into the country,” he said.

Juwai.com is a China-based website for buyers wishing to tap into overseas property markets and accepts advertising from international property marketers.

Chmiel, however, warned that sometimes foreign real estate investment might drive up local property prices.
