PORT DICKSON:
Negeri Sembilan PPBM chairman Rais Yatim says the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government cannot simply set aside its manifesto as it has a responsibility to the voters.

He said the manifesto was the basis on which voters made their choice in an election.

If a large part of the manifesto could not be realised, he added, the PH government would be criticised by the people.

“If the manifesto cannot be implemented, PH should form a special panel to review it… what is important is for the people to know that it (the manifesto) is being studied.

“Otherwise, what’s the point of having a manifesto?” he told reporters when met here last night.

Former international trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz had recently expressed frustration with PH for not allowing Dr Mahathir Mohamad to assume the role of education minister as well as that of prime minister due to its manifesto.

She said the new government risked losing power if it could not make key decisions because it was encumbered by its manifesto pledges.
