The six claimed that they didn't know it was an offence to distribute the Bibles.

Pictures showing the Bibles being distributed in front of a school went viral on social media.
BUKIT MERTAJAM:
Police have recorded statements from six individuals, including a woman, believed to have distributed Bibles to students in front of a secondary school in Bukit Mertajam.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the six, in their 30s and 40s, were called to the SPT police headquarters yesterday to have their statements recorded.

“They claimed the Bibles were distributed to expose the teachings of Christianity. They also thought that it was not an offence to do so because they had done the same thing at hotels, clinics and hospitals,

“They were then released on police bail,” he told Bernama here today.

He said police also recorded statements from 23 other individuals, including the principal of the school concerned, security guards, students, other witnesses and a district education officer.

Nik Ros Azhan said police had so far received eight reports on the incident and they were lodged by parents of the students at the school and non-governmental organisations.
