Cabinet to decide on Dec 8 rally, says KL mayor

Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan says to date, City Hall has yet to receive any application from the organiser.

The organiser of the rally at Dewan Merdeka is expecting one million people to attend.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The government will decide whether or not to allow a rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), Kuala Lumpur mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said.

He said thus far, he had not received any application from the organiser of the rally, scheduled to be held at the Dataran Merdeka on Dec 8.

“We will wait for a decision from the Cabinet later,” he told reporters after attending City Hall’s appreciation ceremony here today.

He said this when asked to comment on a planned rally, which will also be attended by PAS and Umno members, despite the government’s decision not to ratify ICERD.

On Saturday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was quoted as saying that the rally would be held to “thank” the government over its decision.

According to Sinar Harian, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said they will not allow the rally to be held at Dataran Merdeka if it involved one million people as the site could not accommodate such a big number.
