PETALING JAYA: Sipitang MP Yamani Hafez Musa, who has yet to take his oath of office, will do so on Jan 7, next year.

Yamani, the son of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, had earlier been issued a final reminder by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof to be sworn in as an MP or face disqualification.

In a statement today, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s Office said Yamani’s swearing in had been scheduled for Jan 7 at 10am. He will take his oath in front of Mohamad Ariff.

Of the total 222 MPs, 220 took their oath of office in the Dewan Rakyat on the first day of the first meeting of the 14th parliamentary sitting on July 16.

Yamani won the Sipitang parliamentary seat after garnering 12,083 votes, beating his closest rival, Noor Hayaty Mustapha from Parti Warisan Sabah, by an 852-vote majority in a three-cornered contest.

Most recently, when former Sabah Umno chief Hajiji Mohd Noor led an exodus from the party, he said that Yamani had also quit Umno, though Yamani was not present at the press conference to announce the exodus.
