PKR expels Haziq over corruption claims against Azmin, sex video still under probe

The disciplinary board's recommendation was accepted unanimously at the political bureau meeting this evening.

PETALING JAYA: Haziq Aziz, the man at the centre of allegations of gay sex against PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, has been sacked from the party with immediate effect.

This follows his open confession that he had appeared in a gay sex video.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the decision, made by the PKR disciplinary board that met today, was accepted unanimously during the political bureau meeting.

PKR disciplinary board chief Ahmad Kassim said the recommendation was made on the grounds that Haziq had gone against the ethical code as a party member, mainly because Haziq had openly accused a party leader of corruption without giving evidence.

“About the other matters, we are awaiting the outcome of police investigations.”

On Saturday, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the authenticity of the sex video and no time-frame had been set for the probe to be completed.

Haziq, the Santubong PKR Youth chief, claimed he had sex with Azmin at the Four Points hotel in Sandakan on May 11.

Azmin has strongly denied the claim, saying it is part of a conspiracy to end his political career.

Last June 19, PKR issued a show-cause letter to the Santubong PKR youth chief for tarnishing the name, image and reputation of the party for his recent confession. He was given 14 days to reply.

Earlier, Haziq was also sacked from his role as an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Many parties have called the gay-sex confession the largest scandal Pakatan Harapan has faced since its win in the May 9 general election last year.
