JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested an unemployed man here for allegedly throwing red paint at a mosque and a surau in Taman Daya on separate occasions this year.
South Johor Bahru police chief Shahurinain Jais said 30-year-old local man was arrested at 3.17am at a residential area in Taman Daya, near here.
Police also seized a car and a reddish-grey T-shirt believed to have been used by the suspect.
Shahurinain said the man was formerly a psychiatric patient at Permai Hospital and has a record as a drug user.
The paint was thrown at Masjid As Sobirin on Jan 1, and at Surau Al Hidayah, both in Taman Daya, yesterday.
Shahurinain advised the public not to do anything provocative at any place or house of worship that could create disunity within the multi-religious community.
