KUALA LUMPUR: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said the absence of specific details of the promised power transition from Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Anwar Ibrahim could affect investors’ confidence.
The former youth and sports minister said it was not merely a matter of politics.
“Investment decisions in Malaysia are very much affected by political certainty.
“Now that there is political uncertainty due to the vagueness on power transition, the private sector is deteriorating,” he told Dewan Rakyat.
He said the business sector is not willing to invest because there is no clear economic direction.
Under a deal agreed by Pakatan Harapan leaders before the general election, Mahathir will hand over the top post to Anwar.
There have been conflicting claims on the agreement, with Anwar saying it is in black and white, while PPBM leaders say no timeline has been fixed.
