2 social media users under probe for insulting PM, Islam
One of them was arrested yesterday while the other is believed to be overseas.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have begun investigations into two social media users over postings on Twitter and Facebook deemed insulting to the prime minister, inspector-general of police, and Islam.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the first case involved a user by the name of Navin Pillai, whose Twitter post on Oct 11 showed a picture of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Abdul Hamid Bador with the caption: “Anjing/dogs and/bersama its master/tuan”.
He also made a Facebook post on Sept 12 which read: “I call for a new state in #Malaysia for Indians. It will be similar to Sabah and Sarawak. In that state we will govern ourselves, and free from Radical Malay Islamist persecution. #NegeriBharata.”
Speaking at a press conference here today, Huzir said Navin is believed to be overseas.
“We will get help from Interpol and other relevant agencies. Wherever he is, we will find him,” he added.
The second case involves a Facebook user named VT Vasangam who uploaded a picture on Oct 14 showing a pig with the halal logo stamped on it.
The accompanying caption read: “Did you know that insulin used for diabetics is sourced from pig meat? And 25% of the Arab people use it. Now tell me how Allah was right about pigs.
“Mufti? Hadi? Zakar Naik, Mullah? Lebai?…explain.”
Huzir said eight police reports were lodged against the user, who was arrested yesterday when he went to the police station to give his statement.
