Social media lit up with thumbs up emojis and with messages of “job well done” for helping the man, believed to be in his 30s, in front of the Dayabumi Complex at around 3.30pm today.
Dang Wangi OCPD Mohd Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah told FMT that his officers had persuaded the man to get into the patrol car. “I was told my officers also gave him clothes and money to get home,” he said.
Fahmi added when the patrol unit found the man, the policemen had calmly persuaded the man to get into the patrol car. He complied.
“We later found out that he did not have any mental problems but was just undergoing pressure due to personal issues,” he said.
In a press statement, the police said that the man had drunk too much to drown his sorrows, and did not realise that he had taken off his clothes.
The officers then gave him some pocket money, added Fahmi.
Fahmi also thanked the officers for extending their kindness to the man.
He said initially there were some negative comments on the social media as the public were not aware of the man’s problems and sought to criticise him for being drunk.
“But we, the police are still mindful and still humane,” he said.
