PETALING JAYA:
An expert has urged the government to manage fatigue in the healthcare system as doctors, nurses and workers in the front line work tirelessly to contain the Covid-19 infection.

Universiti Malaya health systems and policies senior fellow Dr Khor Swee Kheng said the health ministry needs to be mindful that these individuals do not feel burnt out, depressed or emotionally strained.

“We also do not want them to face road accidents when they leave work, for example. So the management of fatigue in the health system is important,” he told reporters after speaking at a forum on “The Science, Politics, and Geopolitics of Coronavirus” organised by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) here today.

Khor, who is currently with the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, praised the ministry for its handling of the Covid-19 outbreak, particularly in terms of disseminating information to the public.

He said the ministry had been transparent and highly committed in dealing with the infection besides being quick to response, Bernama reported.

“MoH has frequent communications with the public, either through social media or the traditional media,” he said.

In addition to using multiple languages, it is comprehensive in disseminating what has been discussed.

“The ministry has been consistent in delivering the latest information regarding Covid-19, be it through press conferences or media statements and even through social media platforms,” Khor said.
