PETALING JAYA: The auditor-general, Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, has informed staff in an internal memo that he has contracted Covid-19.
The internal circular was confirmed by the National Audit Department.
News of the infection, but not the identity of the infected official, broke yesterday with the announcement that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was in quarantine after contact with a high-level official during a post-Cabinet meeting. However, the PM’s office said Muhyiddin had tested negative for Covid-19.
The audit department said staff were informed about the infected individual in an internal circular that went viral on Wednesday (May 21).
The memo had been distributed to ensure operations at the department continued smoothly during the auditor-general’s leave of absence. The three deputy auditor-generals would take charge.
The department said all of Nik Azman’s close contacts had been informed yesterday so that follow-up action could be taken.
“The Block F2 building at F Complex in Presint 1 (Putrajaya) that was affected has gone through sanitisation and disinfection yesterday.”
Senior officials of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Attorney-General’s Chambers and the National Audit Department have also been placed under quarantine after attending the post-Cabinet meeting chaired by Muhyiddin on Wednesday.
