4 recover, leaving 142 active cases.

PUTRAJAYA:
Malaysia recorded 16 new Covid-19 cases overnight, the fourth straight day of double-digit infections.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four patients recovered yesterday, bringing the total number of patients discharged so far to 8,566.

The total number of active cases now stands at 142.

Today’s 16 new cases bring the total number of cases in the country to 8,831.

No new deaths were reported, with the toll remaining at 123.

Noor Hisham said today’s 16 new cases involve eight imported cases who were infected overseas. Four of them are Malaysians and the other four are foreign nationals who are permanent residents or who hold work permits.

Of the eight local cases, seven are Malaysians in Sarawak.

Five patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with one of them requiring respiratory assistance.
