PETALING JAYA: The health ministry reported 26 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with a new cluster detected in Yan, Kedah.
They bring the total number of infections so far to 9,175.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said three recoveries were recorded, bringing the number of those discharged to 8,831 or 96.3% of the total number of infections.
There were still 219 active cases receiving treatment as of noon today, with six in need of respiratory assistance.
No new deaths were reported, with the toll remaining at 125.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said that of the 26 new cases, two were from the Tawar cluster in Kedah.
He also said four cases were detected in the new Sala cluster in Yan, Kedah.
The cluster involves a Malaysian who tested positive on Aug 13 after suffering severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, Kedah.
So far, 80 close contacts have undergone medical swabs, with four testing positive. Another 76 are awaiting results.
On the Tawar cluster, he said the ministry has carried out 657 swabs, with 520 in Kedah and the remainder in Penang, where three were tested positive. Eight others are awaiting results.
Noor Hisham also said the ministry has carried out swabs on 133 individuals in the Muda cluster and three have been tested positive. Twenty-seven tested negative and 103 are awaiting results.
