KOTA KINABALU: Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony has resigned as president of the Sabah Football Association effective immediately, in the wake of his party’s loss at the state elections at the weekend.

“With all that has happened, including my preoccupation in politics, I feel I need to rest for a while. Hence I would like to announce my resignation as the Safa president with immediate effect,” he said when contacted.

Peter, who was elected to the Melalap seat on Saturday, has been Safa president since 2018. During his tenure the Sabah team won the Malaysian Premier League last year.

Peter said that he did all that he could for the association and expressed hope it would continue to progress under a new president.

He went on to say that the Covid-19 crisis had scuttled plans to further develop Safa after the President’s Cup and Youth Cup competitions were scrapped.
