PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 732 Covid-19 cases and six deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 580 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 14,931.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 732 new cases bring the total number of cases in the country to 22,957.
With the six new deaths, the toll is now 199.
The six dead were five patients in Sabah and one in Labuan. Five of them were Malaysians and one was a foreigner.
They were aged between 27 and 71, with five of them having a history of chronic illness.
Overall, 7,827 people are still being treated across the country, with 102 of them in the intensive care unit and 31 requiring respiratory assistance.
A total of 724 of today’s 732 cases are local infections.
Sabah recorded the highest increase in cases today with 535 infections, or 73.1% of today’s total tally. Overall, patients from Sabah make up 9,290 of the country’s total cases (40.4%).
Selangor recorded the second highest number of cases again today with 116, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 26 and Penang with 12.
The bulk of these cases were detected through contact tracing and from existing clusters.
Negeri Sembilan and Labuan each had nine cases while Kedah and Perak each had seven.
