PETALING JAYA:
The education ministry has announced the closure of 208 public and private schools and colleges in Kuching, Sarawak, after the area became a Covid-19 red zone.

A red zone refers to an area with more than 40 active cases.

A teacher’s training institute under the ministry has also been closed.

All the institutions, which includes primary, secondary, private schools and matriculation colleges, will be closed for 14 days, from tomorrow until Nov 13. The full list of institutions affected may be downloaded here.

“Schools and colleges with dormitories will also be closed. Parents or guardians need to bring students who are staying at such schools and colleges home.

“But students who are waiting for their parents to bring them home or those who wish to remain at their dorms during the closure will come under the care of the dorm’s warden,” it said.

The ministry said the school or college will provide meals for these students.

It also said students sitting for international examinations must get letters from their respective schools.

School administrators must ensure that teachers and students continue learning from home with materials downloaded from the ministry’s website, it said.
