PETALING JAYA:
Twenty-nine people have been arrested in a major police operation launched after a shooting incident near a school in Banting in September.

In a statement today, Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmad said the operation, code name “Ops Blackjack”, led to the arrest of 19 people suspected of involvement in gang activities and organised crime.

“Further investigations were carried out under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act. Subsequently, 10 others were arrested, bringing the total number of suspects to 29,” he said.

Fadzil said investigations papers were submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Oct 27.

“It is hoped the charging of these suspects will bring an end to gang activities and organised crime around Banting, Kuala Langat and the whole of Selangor.”

On Sept 25, it was reported that three students of a school in Banting were injured after a car driver attempting to flee two pursuing gunmen crashed into them.

Police said the two victims in the car, a businessman and his bodyguard, were shot several times in the chest and other parts of the body and were rushed to hospital.

Police believe a fight between two groups was the motive behind the shooting.
