Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 883 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 42,480.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 1,884 new cases bring the total number of cases in the country to 56,659.
There were 1,203 cases in Selangor alone, followed by 289 in Sabah and 196 in Kuala Lumpur.
Noor Hisham added that the spike in positive cases from the Klang Valley came from workplace clusters, especially the Teratai cluster with 1,067 cases and the Damanlela construction site cluster with 101 cases.
Meanwhile, he said the 289 cases from Sabah were mostly from close-contact screenings.
Only 33 cases today were from prisons, lock-ups or temporary detention centres, most of which were from the Bakti cluster (12).
Meanwhile, new cases were also recorded from the Seberang Perai cluster in Penang with seven cases, as well as the GK Tawau (nine), Sandakan Prison (three), and PTS Tawau (one) clusters in Sabah. The Tembok cluster in Kedah reported one new case.
Other states with new cases reported today were Perak (81), Negeri Sembilan (41), Kedah (36), Penang (12), Johor (15), and Kelantan (nine). Putrajaya and Perlis both recorded one case each.
On the two deaths today, Noor Hisham said they involved a 58-year-old Malaysian woman and a 80-year-old Malaysian man, both of whom were from Sabah.
The woman had a history of chronic illnesses.
There are currently 13,842 active cases, with 115 patients receiving intensive care, of which 48 require respiratory assistance.
Pahang, Melaka, Sarawak, Terengganu and Labuan are the only states and federal territory that did not record any new Covid-19 infections today.
Of the 1,884 cases today, only two were imported cases.
