GEORGE TOWN: More than 1,000 residents living at the Desa Bistari Flats, Batu Uban here, where the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) has been extended until Dec 31, are seeking food aid as they have been badly affected by the EMCO.
Desa Bestari Residents Association chairman Md Yusry Yusoff said food aid received from NGOs and leaders earlier was not enough as they had to share it.
“Yes, we did receive food aid where the packs were given to residents of Blocks A and B, like the elderly and single mothers who lost their livelihood.
“Yesterday, the government announced that the EMCO was extended and this has caused those earning a living as petty traders, food deliverers and daily paid workers to lose income because they cannot work,” he said when contacted today.
Yusry said the residents there, especially the elderly, needed basic items like rice, eggs, sardines, biscuits and sugar.
“We welcome food contributions from anyone willing to help to reduce the burden of residents here. They can contact me at 017- 4204122,” he said.
The EMCO involves flats in Persiaran Paya Terubong, Relau and Flat Desa Bistari Blok A and B, Batu Uban.
Yesterday, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the EMCO for the two localities was being extended on the advice and risk assessment done by the health ministry.
