In an interview with Utusan Malaysia, the country’s top cop said middle-level senior police officers were behind the cartel.
Hamid said the cartel would ensure that their collaborators get promoted so they can dominate their teams and the police hierarchy in the future, making it easier for them to do their “dirty work”.
“I know this is happening, they create networks among themselves. In 10 to 15 years, when they are top officers and have power, they will start to do their dirty work, including collaborating with criminals.
“I view this seriously and I will make sure this is stopped and doesn’t happen in the force. I know there are those (in the force) who cannot wait for me to retire.”
Despite this, Hamid said teamwork in the force was good and he was grateful that members of the public had helped expose the wrongdoings of some police officers.
“I am prepared to hear complaints from the public on any wrongdoings by policemen,” he said, adding he would ensure fair investigations into any complaints and that action will be taken.
