PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has recorded a total of 14 Covid-19 clusters caused by cross-border travel and social activities from Dec 7.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Intan, Semambu and Tembok Mempaga clusters in Pahang; the Seragam Chepa cluster in Kelantan; and the Ihsan Ebol cluster in Perak were all due to interstate and cross-border activities in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, among the clusters caused by social activities were the Gerbang Pongu cluster in Perak; Lintas Seraya, Maringkan, Paginatan and Kupi-Kupi clusters in Sabah; Sungai Redan cluster in Johor; the Cassia Diamond cluster involving Selangor and Penang; Sungai Burong cluster involving Selangor and Negeri Sembilan; and the Bandar Impian cluster involving Johor, Kelantan and Perak.

More new cases among local workers now

Noor Hisham also said 63% of the country’s Covid-19 cases were previously made up of foreign workers, while the remaining 37% were Malaysians.

However, the health ministry had seen a rise in infections among local workers in the past week, which meant the virus had spread within the community especially in the Klang Valley.

“This is a concern for us, and although we have eased restrictions for the public, everyone must comply with the SOP,” he said.

The health ministry reported five new Covid-19 clusters today, three of which were in the Klang Valley.

They are known as the Jalan Duyong and Pasar Jalan Sentosa clusters in Selangor, as well as the Jalan Nakhoda cluster in Kuala Lumpur.
