This follows the RoS’ decision to also turn down the application by Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang to be registered as a political party.

Mutalib Uthman, one of Muda’s founders, informed the media of the party’s rejection through a screenshot of an email from RoS.

In the email, the registrar said it had decided to reject Muda’s application yesterday, although it did not give a specific reason for the rejection.

In a statement, Muda expressed disappointment at RoS’ decision, maintaining that it had offered its full cooperation and had complied with all the conditions.

It said RoS had no solid basis to reject Muda’s registration, adding that it would consider its next course of action, including legal proceedings.

“The freedom to associate and the right to take part in the nation’s democratic process is a basic right for each Malaysian, enshrined under the Federal Constitution, but this right has been denied by the government.

“This is the evil work of the Perikatan Nasional government to stop Muda and its supporters from taking part in the next general election.

“We demand that this government compete in the coming elections in a fair, sincere and clean manner, not resorting to sneaky and dirty tactics,” it said.
