The MPs, from PKR, DAP, Amanah, Warisan, Muda, Pejuang and other parties, say quarantine rules should be enforced in an equal and fair manner.
The new rule, in effect from Feb 9 to Aug 1, has drawn criticisms from medical experts and social media users since it was published in the Government Gazette under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.
The director-general of health, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, has since said the three-day rule was not a “blanket provision” and that the surveillance period could last seven, 14 or 21 days. A three-day period would only be granted after a proper risk assessment.
A statement by the MPs said the Covid-19 virus affects everyone regardless of position or rank.
“The government’s decision on an important matter like quarantine must be based on accurate information grounded in science and pandemic prevention measures,” they said.
Ministers should set a good example and abide by all the rules to prevent the spread of the virus and not become the source of a new Covid-19 cluster.
The MPs said the government has taken stringent action against members of the public who did not comply with the rules including arresting and fining them.
Earlier today, it was reported that Sarawak will not follow the health ministry’s decision to allow ministers who return from any official visit abroad to undergo observation for only three days.
State local government and housing minister Dr Sim Kui Hian said anyone who entered Sarawak was still required to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine at a designated hotel or centre.
