Giving an assurance that side effects are largely temporary, Dr Syazwani Samad tells netizens to not be afraid of getting vaccinated.

PETALING JAYA:
The vaccine is here but then, so are the fears about the inoculation. There have been talk of side effects and what may happen after taking the shot.

A Malaysian doctor, however, has poured cold water over the fears. In a tweet, she shares her family’s experience of being vaccinated in India, and hopes that in doing so she can help her fellow Malaysians get over their fears.

In a Twitter thread, Dr Syazwani Samad who uses the handle syaswanismd, said India had first begun its vaccination programme on Feb 2.

As a frontliner herself, she said she and her housemates couldn’t wait to get vaccinated.

She said that when she first entered the vaccination clinic, the nurse who registered her had asked if this was her first or second dosage.

“The vaccine in India’s programmme, Covishield, requires two doses,” she said. “With a month in between.”

She said the injection felt no different than the mandatory ones that all Malaysians take during their school days.

Although she admitted that there was some soreness at the injection point, there was nothing out of the usual.

“The symptoms started that Saturday night itself,” she said. “I was feeling unwell, and later developed a fever.”

She added that although chills ensued on Sunday, she was quick to recover with some well-deserved rest.

“I was already back to normal by Monday.”

After reminding netizens to stay well-rested and hydrated post-vaccination, she also explained that these symptoms indicate the body was producing the antibodies needed to fight infection.

“All in all, don’t be afraid of the vaccine,” she said. “Let’s spread the truth and dispel all lingering doubts.”
