12 new Covid-19 clusters, 8 involving workplaces

The health ministry says three clusters each were detected in Johor and Selangor, two in Kelantan, two in Negeri Sembilan and one each in Sarawak and Sabah.

The health director-general says eight are workplace clusters, two community clusters, one detention cluster and one import cluster.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has detected 12 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said eight of them were workplace clusters, two community clusters, one detention cluster and another, an import cluster.

Three clusters each were detected in Johor and Selangor, two in Kelantan, two in Negeri Sembilan and one each in Sarawak and Sabah.

Clusters that recorded the highest spike in cases today were Subang Dua (146), Jalan Setia Jaya (57) and Kompleks Perabut (43).

The 12 new clusters are:

Johor

  • Kayu Gading – a workplace cluster in Batu Pahat. The index cases were detected on March 14, after workers at three factories located at the Sri Gading II Industrial Area in Batu Pahat were screened. A total of 101 people have been screened with 36 found to be positive.
  • Jalan Hang Tuah – a community cluster in Johor Bahru. The index case was detected on March 7 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. Of the 155 people screened, 20 tested positive.
  • Andromeda – an import cluster in Muar. The first case was detected on March 15 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves crew members of a dredging vessel from Singapore. Some 44 people have been screened with six testing positive.

Selangor

  • Subang Dua – a workplace cluster in Petaling Jaya. The index cases were detected yesterday after factory workers at Jalan Subang 2, Subang Industrial Park, Petaling were screened. A total of 602 people have been screened with 153 found to be positive.
  • Jalan Lada Sulah– a workplace cluster in Petaling and Klang. The first few cases were detected on Feb 22 after factory workers at Jalan Lada Sulah, Shah Alam were screened. Some 327 people have been screened with 18 testing positive.
  • Meranti Jaya – a workplace cluster involving Sepang in Selangor. The index cases were detected on March 14 after factory workers in Taman Meranti Jaya, Puchong were screened. Of the 101 people screened, eight tested positive.

Negeri Sembilan

  • Jalan Perdana – a workplace cluster in Seremban and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan. The index case was detected on March 15 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves an education centre located on Jalan Perdana 2, Taman Rembau Perdana, Rembau. As at March 17, 229 individuals were screened with 23 found to be positive.
  • Tembok Muhasabah – a detention centre cluster in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan. The index cases were detected on March 15 after detainees at a detention centre in Jalan Kuala Klawang, Jelebu were screened. Of the 225 individuals screened, 49 tested positive.

Kelantan

  • Jalan Long Yunus – a workplace cluster in Pasir Puteh, Bachok and Kota Bharu. The index case was detected on March 13, after a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves workers at a public administration centre located on Jalan Long Yunus, Kota Bharu. A total of 214 people have been screened with 23 testing positive.
  • Banggol Lepah – a workplace cluster in Bachok, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu. The index case was detected on March 6 after individual screenings. The cluster involves a construction site in Kampung Banggol Lepah, Kota Bharu. As at March 17, 261 individuals were screened with 41 found to be positive.

Sabah

  • Taman Ria Enam – a community cluster in Tawau, Sabah. The index case was detected on March 11 after pre-surgical screenings. A total of 85 individuals have been screened so far with 16 testing positive.

Sarawak

  • Jalan Merpati – a workplace cluster in Miri, Sarawak. The first case was detected on March 7 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves workers at a supermarket on Jalan Merpati, Miri. Of the 310 individuals screened so far, 51 tested positive.
