Lockdown in more Sarawak localities including Baleh dam area

The hydroelectric dam area in Kapit will come under an enhanced movement control order until May 26.

Certain areas in Sarawak will come under tighter controls from tomorrow following a rise in Covid-19 cases.
PETALING JAYA:
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced more restrictions in Sarawak, with the Baleh dam project area placed in EMCO lockdown as more Covid-19 cases were reported in the state.

Ismail said the Baleh hydroelectric dam construction area in Kapit will come under an enhanced movement control order from tomorrow until May 26.

This comes after the health ministry recorded 243 positive cases within a week through screening on the dam workers.

Previously, nine longhouses under the Sungai Daun longhouse in Mukah, Sarawak were placed under EMCO on April 10.

However, due to a rise in Covid-19 cases in the area and to ensure infections do not spread beyond the community, Ismail said the government had decided to widen the EMCO in that locality to another six longhouses and one school until May 6.

These are Rumah Panjang Belayong, Rumah Panjang Tepi, Rumah Panjang Minggu, Rumah Panjang Rimong, Rumah Panjang Undun, Rumah Panjang Lindan, and SK Sungai Duan.

However, the EMCO in Sabah at Kampung Melangkap Tomis in Kota Belud and two localities in Sandakan – Flat Sim-Sim, Mukim Berhala and Kampung Sungai Obar, Batu 7, Mukim Sentosa will end tomorrow as scheduled.

The EMCO in four villages in the Temerloh district will end tomorrow as scheduled. The villages are Kampung Paya Pulai Tengah, Kampung Pulau Terap, Kampung Batu 4, and Kampung Batu 5.

The EMCO affecting Perumahan Komuniti Bersepadu Pulau Serai, Pekan, Pahang will also end tomorrow, two days earlier than scheduled.

Ismail added that 420 people were arrested yesterday for MCO offences. Out of this number, 388 were slapped with compound fines while 32 others were remanded.

Among the offences were attending nightclubs (145), failure to register before entering premises (134), failure to wear face masks (56), and others (33).
