PETALING JAYA:
The Maran district health office in Pahang is investigating an alleged gathering held during the current full movement control order (MCO) period at the residence of deputy housing and local government minister Ismail Abdul Muttalib.

Maran district police chief Norzamri Abd Rahman confirmed the investigation when contacted by Malaysiakini.

“Investigation papers have been opened by the health ministry, that is, the Maran district health office,” Norzamri was quoted as saying.

Pictures have circulated on social media showing an apparent Father’s Day gathering in what many claimed was the deputy minister’s home.

Ismail and nine others can be seen in the pictures, wearing face masks and standing apart from each other.

However, under current SOPs, no social gathering of any kind is permitted, regardless of masks or social distancing.

The government has repeatedly advised people to stay home whenever possible and to only go out for essential goods and services, work or in emergencies.
