In a statement, Pejuang secretary-general Amiruddin Hamzah said they were informed of the decision by the Kuala Lumpur High Court, instructing Hamzah to decide on the registration within 14 days from today.
“The trial judge touched on the issue that the minister, for the last five and a half months, has yet to respond to our request for registration and deemed this ‘unreasonable’.
“We will continue to pursue our registration through legal channels,” Amiruddin added.
High Court judge Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid today allowed Pejuang’s judicial review bid to compel the home minister to make a decision on Pejuang’s registration as a political party.
The court said Hamzah was in breach of his statutory duty, under Section 18 of the Societies Act, in deciding on Pejuang’s appeal, adding it was “beyond a reasonable time” for him to take over five months to decide on a matter that was not so complicated.
Earlier this year, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) turned down Pejuang’s registration.
Subsequently, Pejuang filed its appeal to Hamzah on Jan 8 but the minister has yet to provide a response, prompting them to go to court to seek an order over the registration.
Besides Pejuang, RoS has also refused to register former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s MUDA as a political party.
