8,574 Covid-19 cases, 102 deaths and a record high 964 in ICU

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,041 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 747,338.

The health ministry has reported 8,574 Covid-19 cases and 102 deaths in the past 24 hours.

A record high of 964 patients are also being treated in intensive care. Yesterday, it was 961.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,041 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 747,338.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 844,870.

There are 91,272 active cases, with 452 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 102 deaths take the number of fatalities to 6,260.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 4,308 while Kuala Lumpur had 609. It is the fifth consecutive day Selangor recorded over 4,000 infections.

Negeri Sembilan had 794 cases followed by Kedah (415), Melaka (411), Johor (407), Pahang (314), Sabah (298), Sarawak (235), Penang (231), Perak (168), Terengganu (140), Kelantan (133), Labuan (66) and Putrajaya (45).

No new cases were recorded in Perlis.

There were 8,534 local infections today, comprising 7,097 Malaysians and 1,447 foreigners, as well as 40 imported cases.

The 102 who died comprised 97 Malaysians and four foreigners, aged 29 to 86. All but 19 had existing medical conditions. Fourteen were brought in dead.

Selangor also reported the highest number of casualties with 46, followed by Kuala Lumpur (16), Negeri Sembilan (14), Pahang (7), Johor (6), Kedah (3), Melaka (3), Sabah (2), Penang (2) and one each in Kelantan, Perak and Sarawak.

Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R0 (pronounced R-nought), stood at 1.15.

Two states and two federal territories recorded an R0 above the national average, with Putrajaya topping the list at 1.31.

This was followed by Selangor (1.18), Kuala Lumpur (1.17) and Kedah (1.17)

States that fell below the national average were Pahang (1.14), with Sabah (1.08), Melaka (1.08) , Terengganu, Perak (1.07), Penang (1.05), Negeri Sembilan (1.02), Johor (1.02), Kelantan (0.95), Labuan (0.90), Sarawak (0.85) and Perlis (0).
