
This surpassed the previous record of 22,242 Covid-19 cases yesterday.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,489,460.
He said there were a record high 21,720 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,220,446.
There are 255,534 active cases with 1,060 patients being treated in intensive care and 528 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 178 deaths take the number of fatalities to 13,480.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 7,175.
This was followed by Sabah (2,583), Kedah (2,137), Penang (1,655), Johor (1,526), Kuala Lumpur (1,439), Kelantan (1,271), Perak (1,229), Sarawak (1,206), Melaka (737), Pahang (736), Terengganu (621), Negeri Sembilan (556), Perlis (42), Putrajaya (26) and Labuan (9).
Both Sabah and Perak registered record high numbers of cases. Sabah’s
previous high was 2,413 new cases yesterday while Perak had 1,215 on Feb 21.
There were 22,939 local infections today, as well as nine imported cases.
The 178 who died comprised 155 Malaysians and 23 foreigners. All but 32 had existing medical conditions while 35 were brought in dead.
Selangor also reported the highest number of fatalities with 65, followed by Johor (36), Kuala Lumpur (23), Sabah (11), Penang (8), Melaka (8), Pahang (8), Kelantan (5), Negeri Sembilan (4), Terengganu (4), Sarawak (4), Kedah (1) and Perak (1).
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 1.04.
Perlis recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.33, followed by Sarawak (1.21), Sabah (1.19), Penang (1.18), Kelantan (1.14), Kedah (1.10), Perak (1.10), Johor (1.07), Pahang (1.06), Melaka (1.06), Terengganu (1.05), Selangor (0.99), Kuala Lumpur (0.96), Negeri Sembilan (0.95), Putrajaya (0.91) and Labuan (0).
About 98% or 22,490 cases are Category 1 and Category 2, while 18,581 new cases, or 80.9%, involved individuals who have not been vaccinated or completed their vaccinations.
