
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 20,798 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,337,134.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 1,616,244.
Meanwhile, the 265 deaths take the number of fatalities to 14,818.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 6,325.
This was followed by Sabah (3,224), Kedah (2,279), Johor (1,832), Sarawak (1,667), Penang (1,427), Kelantan (1,424), Perak (1,390), Kuala Lumpur (1,128), Terengganu (744), Pahang (522), Melaka (342), Negeri Sembilan (269), Perlis (44), Putrajaya (21) and Labuan (4).
Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Perak recorded all-time highs in the number of cases today.
There are now 264,292 active cases, with 1,003 patients being treated in intensive care and 490 requiring respiratory assistance.
There were 22,637 local infections today, involving 19,028 Malaysians and 3,609 foreigners, as well as five imported cases.
The 265 deceased comprised 219 Malaysians and 46 foreigners. All but 66 had existing medical conditions while 69 were brought in dead.
Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 105, followed by Johor (39), Sabah (23), Kedah (19), Penang (18), Kuala Lumpur (18), Negeri Sembilan (12), Perak (9), Sarawak (6), Pahang (5), Kelantan (5), Melaka (4) and Terengganu (2).
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, or R-nought) stood at 1.02.
Perlis recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.28. Other states and federal territories that recorded R0 levels above 1 were Sarawak (1.22), Sabah (1.21), Penang (1.18), Kelantan (1.10), Perak (1.07), Kedah (1.06), Johor (1.06), Terengganu (1.03), Melaka (1.02) and Pahang (1.01).
Some 97.9% of today’s cases were under Category 1 and 2, while 80.1% of the overall cases involved individuals who either had not been vaccinated or received only one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
