22,070 Covid-19 cases, 339 deaths

Selangor has highest number of cases, Perlis records all-time high.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 22,070 Covid-19 cases and 339 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 21,877 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,381,668.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 1,662,913.

Meanwhile, the 339 deaths take the number of fatalities to 15,550.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 5,920.

This was followed by Sabah (3,010), Sarawak (2,224), Kedah (2,072), Penang (1,829), Johor (1,809), Kuala Lumpur (1,068), Kelantan (1,051), Perak (939), Pahang (610), Melaka (589), Terengganu (488), Negeri Sembilan (338), Perlis (76), Putrajaya (39) and Labuan (8).

Perlis recorded an all-time high in the number of cases today.

There are now 265,695 active cases, with 982 patients being treated in intensive care and 470 needing respiratory assistance.

There were 22,055 local infections today, involving 18,832 Malaysians and 3,223 foreigners, as well as 15 imported cases.

The 339 who died comprised 289 Malaysians and 50 foreigners. All but 78 had existing medical conditions while 99 were brought in dead.

Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 103, followed by Sabah (41), Kuala Lumpur (40), Penang (38), Johor (37), Kedah (20), Perak (15), Negeri Sembilan (13), Kelantan (8), Pahang (8), Melaka (6), Terengganu (5), Sarawak (3) and Perlis (2).

Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate remained at 1.02.

Perlis recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.23. Other states and federal territories that recorded R0 levels above 1 were Sarawak (1.20), Sabah (1.19), Penang (1.14), Johor (1.09), Kelantan (1.08), Perak (1.08), Kedah (1.03), Terengganu (1.03), Pahang (1.01) and Melaka (1.00).

Some 98.1% of today’s cases are Category 1 and 2, while 77.2% of the overall cases involved individuals who either have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated.
