After the school break from Dec 11-31, the current school year will pick up from where it has left.
“This period will be used by the education ministry to monitor our children and see what support needs to be given to ensure our children are prepared to move to the next class,” he said during a press conference today.
He said students will only be able to move on to the next level after an assessment of their ability and once they have been given the assistance they need.
“For example, Year 6 pupils will return to the same level when the new school term starts in January next year.
“They will remain at that level for the first two months of the year for teachers to assess their ability before they progress to Form 1 in March.”
Students will also undergo intensive learning to ensure their ability is at the level needed to progress, he added.
Due to the extension, enrolment for Year 1 students for the next teaching year will only begin in March 2022.
“As such, the next school year will be known as the 2022/2023 school session,” he explained.
