
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 15,456 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 2,116,021.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 2,285,640.
There were 867 patients in intensive care, 807 of whom were confirmed Covid-19 positive and 60 suspected of being infected.
Meanwhile, 461 patients required respiratory assistance, with 342 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 119 suspected of being positive.
Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases with 1,189.
This was followed by Kelantan (1,020), Penang (853), Johor (781), Selangor (686), Sabah (677), Terengganu (636), Kedah (628), Perak (548), Pahang (522), Melaka (219), Kuala Lumpur (151), Negeri Sembilan (108), Perlis (36), Putrajaya (19) and Labuan (2).
Noor Hisham said there were 8,075 local infections today, involving 7,248 Malaysians and 821 foreigners, and six imported cases.
Of the new infections, only 2% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 0.87, with Perlis and Putrajaya having the highest R-nought level of 1.02 and Terengganu with 1.00.
All the other states recorded R-nought figures of less than 1.0 while Labuan had an R-nought of zero.
