BATANG SADONG: Tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri returned to her constituency here today to meet with female entrepreneurs and donate essentials to empower their financial independence.
She donated baking equipment to the businesswomen, and encouraged them to expand their production capacity to uplift their community.
Among the appliances donated were commercial electric and gas ovens, food processors, mixers and digital scales, presented by the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau as part of its community service initiative,
“This initiative will help to boost the local economy. Here we can see how the women are truly serious about doing better and expanding their business, and how committed they are about generating income for their family.
“This is one way for us to create independent women. They also end up helping younger people, even boys, (by having them work) with them, especially in the batik industry,” she said.
“This is another programme to motivate the locals, especially those who have already started small businesses,” she told FMT.
At Rumah Usahawan Sadong Jaya, women are offered the opportunity and space to sell their home-cooked food and baked goods, produce batik items, sew face masks and learn new skills.
The MyCSR initiative allows those in the business events industry to contribute to social efforts, with past initiatives including tree planting in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, distributing bicycles to children’s welfare homes and inviting delegates to receive massages from blind masseurs in partnership with the Malaysian Association for the Blind.
The programme was the last stop on MyCEB’s ‘Meet In Malaysia @ Sarawak’ convention, held over the last three days.
“This is a very noble gesture by MyCEB, who not only come here to hold events and offer financial support for other events organisations in Sarawak, but also help the local community,” added Nancy.
She was accompanied by Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, her political secretary Mohammed Kamaluddin Mohd Affendi, ministry secretary-general Noor Zari Hamat and his deputy Mohd Zamri Mat Zain, MyCEB COO Noor Ahmad Hamid, the ministry’s Sarawak director Suriya Charles Buas and MyCEB marketing director Mohammad Isa.
